Learn the use of color, values, design composition and paint application in a direct, alla prima style. The class will strongly stress value and its importance to the overall success of the painting. This workshop will focus on landscapes as “Plein Air” studies or quick “Travel Paintings”. With the use of smaller canvas panels (nothing over 12 x 16) we will touch on ways to bring life to your photographs and use them as an aid rather than letting the photograph dictate the painting process. You will need at least two canvas panels per day. Eric will start each session with a quick painting demo emphasizing this application and style as it relates to the subject matter. There will be plenty of individual attention to address you needs. Students are encouraged to bring their own photos or reference material however, Eric will supply plenty of photos for your use. NOTE: Water-mixable or traditional oils only. Odorless mineral spirits must be used. Sorry, no acrylics or watercolor. Read the Supply List to learn what is suggested for the workshop.
