Workshop: Theme + Murky Middles, Endings, and Page Turns The final session tackles your story’s core theme, tricky middles, and satisfying endings, with tips for writing strong loglines. You’ll also create a second picture book dummy using templates from Debbie Ridpath Ohi’s website. Bring your Collections Journal, notebook, pencils, two large-print (18 pt) manuscript copies, scissors, and tape. This sixth and final Writer in Residence workshop is open to teens and adults. Fall 2025 Writer in Residence – Kim Tomsic Kim Tomsic, Prescott Valley’s Writer-in-Residence, is an award-winning children’s author, adjunct faculty professor, and accomplished speaker, advisor, and mentor. Her books are published by HarperCollins, Chronicle Books, and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). Tomsic teaches creative writing across three universities: UCLA Extension (since 2022), Southern New Hampshire University’s MFA program, and the University of Denver’s MFA program. An active SCBWI member since 2009, she has served as a teacher, speaker, and volunteer leader, organizing events for 700+ members in Colorado and Wyoming, including two annual conferences of 250 attendees as well as numerous smaller workshops throughout the year.
