DESCRIPTION:Crafting Compelling Characters Prescott Valley Public Library welcomes Writer in Residence\, Kim Tomsic! Join us for special writing workshops September November. Workshop: Crafting Compelling Characters Learn to build unforgettable picture book characters through the five W's\, five techniques to make readers care\, and by creating a character bible to guide your draft. Bring your Collections Journal and a notebook. This second Writer in Residence workshop is open to teens and adults. Fall 2025 Writer in Residence   Kim Tomsic Kim Tomsic\, Prescott Valley's Writer-in-Residence\, is an award-winning children's author\, adjunct faculty professor\, and accomplished speaker\, advisor\, and mentor. Her books are published by HarperCollins\, Chronicle Books\, and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). Tomsic teaches creative writing across three universities: UCLA Extension (since 2022)\, Southern New Hampshire University's MFA program\, and the University of Denver's MFA program. An active SCBWI member since 2009\, she has served as a teacher\, speaker\, and volunteer leader\, organizing events for 700+ members in Colorado and Wyoming\, including two annual conferences of 250 attendees as well as numerous smaller workshops throughout the year. Published works include: The Truth Aboout 5th Grade (2024) The Elephants Come Home (2021) The 12th Candle (2019) Guitar Hero\, Chronicle Books (2019) The 11:11 Wish (2018) Pre-registration is required for these workshops.
