Lend Me a Soprano, by Ken Ludwig, is a gender-swapped, madcap comedy inspired by his Tony Award-winning "Lend Me a Tenor." It centers around a world-class soprano, Elena Firenzi, and her one-night-only performance in "Carmen" at the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. The plot follows the hilarious chaos that erupts as various characters, including Elena's jealous husband, the eager manager, and a womanizing opera company member, all conspire to make the performance a disaster. Ultimately, it's a humorous tale of mistaken identities, passionate (and sometimes misplaced) affections, and the unpredictable nature of opera backstage.
